DUBAI: This is with reference to Pervez Hoodbhoy’s article of January 2 titled “Remembering Salmaan Taseer”.
It is not just Egypt but across most of the Arab world, including Saudi Arabia, that only those sermons at prayers are aired which are approved by the government. For this, the latter issues guidelines each week, on the themes and topics that can be covered, and also for the themes and topics that are to be avoided. The spouting of extremist and intolerant views is the root cause of many problems that we face today.
