CNG stations’ closure (II)

Letter January 01, 2012
Lack of planning and mismanagement, unfortunately, seems to be a hallmark of this government.

KARACHI: I own a CNG vehicle which I spent over Rs20,000 converting so that it could run on this cheaper fuel. However, I also knew that CNG was being sold at an unrealistically low price and that sooner or later, the party, as they say, would have to end. That has happened now and those who have CNG-ready vehicles need to understand this change and adapt.

Having said that, there is no absolutely no excuse for the government to escape censure on this issue. Why did it not plan in advance and foresee that selling CNG at cheap rates would sharply increase demand. Given that supply of the fuel, at least in the short-term is fixed, this would inevitably lead to an acute shortage, and that has now happened. This lack of planning and mismanagement, unfortunately, seems to be a hallmark of this government.

At the very least, the petroleum and natural resources minister should tender his resignation.
