Long live Zarteef Khan for supporting the cause of human rights. Let us hope his efforts are not in vain!
KARACHI: This is with reference to Salman Rashid’s article “Zarteef Afridi: Hero of Jamrud” (December 10).
There is nothing to celebrate in Pakistan. Zarteef Khan Afridi, a prominent human rights defender from Fata, was gunned down on December 8, in Khyber Agency. And Alamzeb Khattak, who stood by his 16-year-old sister — who was kidnapped and raped by a few persons, including three policemen — to ensure justice for her was later gunned down in Karak on December 11. In Pakistan, the struggle for human rights has a long way to go. Long live Zarteef Khan for supporting the cause of human rights. Let us hope his efforts are not in vain!
