Only itself to blame

Letter December 04, 2011
Why did the party wait for the Supreme Court to intervene in the matter of corruption in government?

PESHAWAR: The PPP only has itself to blame for squandering a golden opportunity provided to it following the wave of sympathy in the aftermath of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. Why did its leadership have to appoint people of questionable integrity and dubious backgrounds as heads of key public-sector organisations?

Why did the party wait for the Supreme Court to intervene in the matter of corruption in government? It should have taken the moral high ground, acting on its own to weed its ranks of all those who are corrupt and defrauding the national exchequer through their misdeeds.

The FIA’s credibility has been damaged by none other than the government, which has used this federal agency to protect people who should be tried for being involved in corrupt practices.
