I’m a ‘ghairatmand’ Pakistani

Letter December 01, 2011
Why isn’t there ghairat activated when an old man ‘marries’ a young girl and a cleric conducts that nikah?

KARACHI: This is with reference to Atika Rehman’s article of December 1 titled “I’m a ghairatmand Pakistani”. Where were these ghairatmands when Salmaan Taseer, a serving governor, was gunned down by his own police guard? Why isn’t there ghairat activated when an old man ‘marries’ a young girl and a cleric gives it legitimacy by conducting the nikah? Why don’t our television channels play ‘milli naghmay’ when our brave soldiers are dying at the hands of the Taliban or other militants? Why are our soldiers praised and remembered as martyrs only when killed by non-Muslims? Why don’t our television channels show coverage of funerals of our shaheeds when they die at the hands of the Taliban and other militants?
