Nov 26 attacks — can’t be business as usual

Letter November 29, 2011
One does not know what to say since the facts are not known.

CHANTILLY, VA, US: Nasim Zehra’s article of November 28 titled “November 26 attack — cannot be business as usual” is very good. But one does not know what to say since the facts are not known. The minimum should be that there is a joint inquiry.

That said, I find it difficult to accept that even after a call was made by the Pakistan Army the attack continued “for another hour”. Doesn’t this also mean that our positions were rocketed with no response from our side? Surely there must be a hotline of some sort? I know we have it for India. I hope the call has been recorded. If so, it should be played to the world’s audience — along with the response, if any.

As for the posts that were attacked, it would be good to know when exactly they were set up. The attacking forces must have used their sophisticated on-board GPS-based moving maps and night-vision equipment. Were these posts on these maps? Was the software updated to include them? More importantly, did the Nato pilots know they were Pakistani posts?

If they did know exactly where they were and what they were targeting, then that would be a case of cold-blooded murder.
