Pakistan being Pakistan, we should not be surprised if wrong conclusions are drawn from facts.
I enjoyed reading Sami Shah’s “Memento mori” (November 24). The fact is that we do not know the truth. And Pakistan being Pakistan, we should not be surprised if wrong conclusions are drawn from facts. As I see it, the history of Pakistan is dictated by the men in khaki, who do what they must after every few years of an elected government coming into office. They want to create the perception that civilians are incompetent and dishonest.
Transparency, management-speak for ‘honesty’, is put forward as the answer to most of today’s ills. But the truth of the matter, honestly, is that this would lead to disaster, for lying is at the heart of many civilisations.
