A gentle reminder…

Letter November 22, 2011
It appears that Mr Shafi is running out of topics to take up in his columns.

KARACHI: This refers to Kamran Shafi’s column of November 20. It appears that Mr Shafi is running out of topics to take up in his columns, otherwise he would not have wasted the valuable space of editorial pages on reproducing a letter written over half a century ago by General Ayub Khan to the US defence authorities of that time. The subject discussed in the letter appears to be of purely military nature and had little to do with the country’s sovereignty. The details of various components of the army’s formations/units was being mentioned in the memo to the country that was providing military aid under an agreement and hence would not have been a secret to the US military.

Also, from reading the letter, it appears to be routine correspondence from GHQ and should not be taken as something treacherous. In any case, it should not be likened to the memo involving Mansoor Ijaz, which seems to be entirely of different intent.
