The case of the curious memo (II)

Letter November 19, 2011
What civilian governments in Pakistan need to do is to build public opinion in their favour to fix the army.

NEW DELHI: President Asif Ali Zardari, even though elected, had no business to ask for American help to fix the Pakistani military. His intentions may have been correct but his execution of those intentions was terribly wrong. What civilian governments in Pakistan need to do is to build public opinion in their favour to do such things. Zardari can take a cue from Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi, who never asked the Americans to topple Mayanmar’s military junta and install herself in power.
