Words from Eid

Letter November 16, 2011
The writer has very admirably traced back the origin of the word ‘Eid’ and enlightened us readers.

LAHORE: This is with reference to Khaled Ahmad’s article of November 16 titled “Words from Eid”. The writer is a well-known erudite personality whose quality of detail and analysis of the subjects he writes on make him stand out among the ranks of his contemporaries. He has very admirably traced back the origin of the word ‘Eid’ and enlightened us readers as to its different connotations.

However, it would have been even more educational had he also dilated upon the aspect that the recurrence of two Eids requires Muslims to repeatedly reaffirm their resolve to inculcate in themselves the attributes of true followers of the faith. These are: piety, fear of Allah, truthfulness, compassion, justice and tolerance.
