Distorted histories

Letter November 12, 2011
I am an Indian and reading this article may have changed my opinion of Pakistani newspapers a little bit.

LAKE ZURICH, IL, US: This is with reference to Farhan Ahmed Shah’s article of November 11 titled “Distorted history”. The writer is either very brave or very stupid to question Pakistani society in the way that he has. But I think he is one of the few Pakistanis who see his country the way it should be seen and who ask questions rather than accepting things as they are.

I am an Indian and reading this article may have changed my opinion of Pakistani newspapers a little bit; if only there were more people like Farhan in Pakistan. That is the reason why someone like me thinks that it is tough talking to Pakistan, because we don’t get to talk to people such as the writer.

Of course, I am not saying that India does not have its share of bigots but it is able to overcome them because it does not have a military that is powerful enough to coerce the civilian government into doing what it (the military) wants.
