Another suicide

Letter November 06, 2011
Twenty-seven-year old Dhani Bux Soho took his life when the government did not send him an appointment letter.

KARACHI: Following the tragic suicide of Raja Khan, who burnt himself to death in Islamabad in front of parliament some days back, comes the tragic tale of another man, also from Sindh, who took his life after being denied his due right. This happened in Larkana, the hometown of the Bhutto family, on November 2. Twenty-seven-year old Dhani Bux Soho took his life when the government did not send him an appointment letter even over two years after he had qualified for the post of assistant registrar for cooperatives.

The test was conducted in April 2009 and more than 15,000 candidates had appeared. The final result was announced in January of this year and Dhani Bux was one of the 371 lucky ones who had passed and qualified for a government job, but despite the passage of over two and a half years he couldn’t get a letter from the government officially stating that he held the job that he had qualified for.

Who is to blame for this young man’s death? Couldn’t the Sindh Public Service Commission have sent out letters in a reasonable period of time?
