WOKING, UK: This is with reference to a letter in your newspaper of October 31 titled “The positive aspects of Taliban rule”.
The reason no one talks of the “positive” aspects of Taliban rule is because most people don’t see anything positive about them. Poppy cultivation was not reduced under their rule and in fact it increased when their warlords were in power. Even now, it is thriving in the areas where they have sway, and they use it to generate revenue to finance their terrorist activities. Also, many of the measures that they introduced were not humane and amounted to further subjugating women in Afghanistan. People who are inclined towards living under Taliban rule should perhaps go and live in Afghanistan once a Taliban emirate is established there.
