Time for India to reciprocate

Letter October 25, 2011
Indeed, this was a good gesture on the part of the Pakistani military to resolve the matter so quickly and amicably.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your editorial of October 25 titled “A most welcome gesture”. Pakistan and, in particular, the army chief have been praised by the Indian media for promptly allowing the Indian helicopter and its crew to return to India.

Indeed, this was a good gesture on the part of the Pakistani military to resolve the matter so quickly and amicably. This comes following the decision in principle by Pakistan to accord India most-favoured nation status.

Perhaps India should now reciprocate with a similar kind of gesture. It could release Dr Mohammad Khalil Chishti, a Pakistani who has been in an Indian jail awaiting trial for 19 years.
