LAHORE: Hisham Wyne’s piece is very good and worth a read. But the problem is that most of the people who will have read it will already be in agreement with him. Those who need to read it will not or cannot because it hasn’t been published in Urdu. And as for the people who really call the shots in Pakistan, I hate to sound like a complete sceptic, but they must have read many such articles on this issue in your newspaper and it is unlikely that they will change their policies.
The only way such things can change is if popular opinion is behind it and if people come out on the streets demanding it — as happened in the lawyers’ movement to restore the Supreme Court of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
