LAHORE: We live in a world where the media offers immense educational and entertainment opportunities for adults and children. However, this can have its disadvantages as well.
One of them relates to the violence that comes on television, and to which our children are exposed to on a daily basis. In recent years, especially with the advent of cable, children are turning to televisions in greater numbers and watching it for longer periods of time.
Studies suggest that the impact TV has on children depends on factors such as the period of time they spend watching it, their age and personality, whether they watch alone or with adults, and whether their parents discuss with them what they (the children) see on TV.
It is mainly the responsibility of parents to pay close attention to what their children see and to monitor their viewing. This is also needed because exposure to violence on television can have a very negative impact on young children.
