A lesson to other leaders

Letter October 22, 2011
Fate of Muammar Qaddafi should serve as a lesson to the leaders of our own country.

KARACHI: The fate of Muammar Qaddafi should serve as a lesson to the leaders of our own country. No matter how much they extend the walls of their houses, or increase their security, the rulers cannot protect themselves from the anger and frustration of the nation. As for the motto ‘democracy is the best revenge’, it seems that the revenge is being taken against the ordinary people of this country.

There is no universally accepted definition of democracy, but there is universal agreement that one of its guiding principles is that all citizens are equal before law. But we know that is not the case here. Perhaps the greatest lesson in the death of Qaddafi is that he was done to death by his very own people.
