LAHORE: Surely the US cannot be blamed for all that ails Pakistan and this region in general. In his piece titled “Dehshatgardi Murdabad” (October 21), Taimur Rahman has some valid points but it seems that the gist of his article is a thinly-veiled attack on the US and its policies across the world. Also, perhaps we should be asking ourselves what Pakistan would do were it in America’s position of economic and military strength. It is very easy to criticise others but surely we need to be looking at ourselves and where we may have gone wrong.
For instance, the increasing propensity among a growing number of Pakistanis sympathising with ideologies such as those held by the Taliban cannot be blamed on meddling by western powers.
It would have been good if the writer had also included this side of the story in his article as well.
