The notion of strategic depty (II)

Letter October 20, 2011
Strategic depth policy does not reflect national consensus, rather the failure of civilian control of policymaking.

LAHORE: One cannot joke away your history nor can one daydream about the future. Whatever happens to America will happen, but the question that needs to be asked is what is happening to Pakistan?

I have respected General Asad Durrani, though I may disagree with what he says. However, his article reflects a frustration at not being able to explain the self-defeating policy of ‘strategic depth’. And this policy does not reflect our national consensus, rather it reflects the failure of the people and their representatives to take control of policymaking.
