I love my ‘mulk’

Letter October 13, 2011
If we do not give the police the respect they deserve, then we can hardly complain they do not provide us protection.

FRISCO, TX, US: This is with reference to Faiza Iqbal’s article of October 13, titled “I love my ‘mulk’”.

As an expatriate who has fond and undimmed hopes of one day returning and dying in her country, I concur with the sentiment that there is scant attention paid by the well-to-do, to the efforts of law-enforcement personnel in Pakistan.

We are guilty of using ‘connections’ to bypass the law when it suits our needs and are quick to claim that the police are corrupt. This system has to work both ways. If we do not give the police the respect that they deserve, then we can hardly complain that they do not provide us protection.
