Peace deals in Fata (II)

Letter October 07, 2011
Negotiations will not work with militants. Ahmadzais do not have the will and strength to implement any peace deal.

ISLAMABAD: Lt-Gen Ali Jan Aurakzai gave the militants in Fata a free hand and they entrenched themselves. This is a good example of how a wrong man at a very sensitive job can create a long-lasting headache for a whole nation. Negotiations will not work with the militants. The Ahmadzais do not have the will and strength to implement any peace deal. When the writer says “sufficient time”, what kind of timeframe does he have?

Surely three failed agreements over a span of nine years should give an indication to the government and the military that this approach is not going to work and will end up only strengthening the militants.
