Police ineptitude

Letter October 05, 2011
We are living in the twenty-first century but the police seem to working in the Dark Ages.

ISLAMABAD: This refers to a report which said that the superior courts have asked the inspector-general of police for Sindh to submit the educational qualifications and professional training record of all officers working on the investigation side.

The courts have done this following a delayed investigation case of a boy who was kidnapped in January 2010 and is yet to be recovered. In this particular case it came to light that the DSP heading the investigation had made several elementary mistakes in the report that he had submitted to his seniors.

We are living in the twenty-first century but the police seem to working in the Dark Ages. There seems to be no move towards adopting forensics and other modern investigative techniques and as a result of that they are losing out to the criminals, who are always several steps ahead. May I ask why the interior ministry is not making any progress on this issue, notwithstanding the propensity of the minister concerned to be in the news every now and then?
