Why talk to terrorists?

Letter October 05, 2011
One thing we should all remember is that history moves with defiance against occupation.

LAHORE: This is with reference to Jawad U Rehman’s letter of October 4 titled “Why talk to terrorists?”. Mr Rehman has suggested that Pakistan should follow Sri Lanka’s example because the latter now has “permanent and durable peace”. To say that Sri Lanka now has a ‘permanent peace’ is perhaps seeing too much into the future, as in the LTTE was defeated only a couple of years ago and it remains to be seen as to what the long-term direction of the country will be.

Also, how is it that those who fought against the Soviet occupation were given a name as respected as ‘mujahideen’ and now when the same people are fight the US occupation, they are branded as ‘Taliban’. In any case, the last word on the Afghan war has yet to be written. One thing we should all remember is that history moves with defiance against occupation.
