KARACHI: This is with reference to your ongoing coverage of the apparent breakdown in ties between Pakistan and the US attacks over the issue of the Haqqani network. The Haqqanis are closely allied to the Taliban and the latter have had no qualms about attacking innocent people, including women and children. As said by the Holy Prophet (pbuh) the weakest of faith is that who does not raise his voice if witness to any wrong act.
We all see the harm that these people do and yet, we are afraid to raise our voice against them. I have yet to hear a political party speak out unequivocally against the Taliban, based simply on their misdeeds.
Our faith in the government has been badly shaken because it has so far been unable to come down hard on the extremists and militants, and regrettably, it seems, the same is going to happen in the case of the Haqqanis. Why don’t some of our better known political leaders, in particular one who is touring the length and breadth of the country, holding rallies and hoping to become the next prime minister, speak out against the extremists and demand that the government act against them?
