The old days are gone and we need to move forward towards a better future for ourselves and for our children.
LEEDS, UK: This is with reference to Kuldip Nayar’s article of September 15 titled “India cannot always be at odds with Pakistan”.
Of course, Pakistan must try to work out its differences with India and live in peace and harmony, so that the future generations of both countries can live in a safer world. Sadly the old guard will not allow young blood to come forward and take the lead because the former is so entrenched in making money and in benefitting from a preservation of the status quo.
Clearly, it is in the interest of both Pakistan and India to stop their arms race and embrace each other as brothers. If they do that, they will free up billions of dollars which otherwise go to funding their respective armies every year. As it is, both countries have among the world’s biggest armies.
I was an officer in the Pakistan Army, I am from the old guard and I am a practicing Muslim but now I preach love and peace. The old days are gone and we need to move forward towards a better future for ourselves and for our children. We, in Pakistan need to love our brothers in India as well as Pakistan, be they Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist or Muslim.
