Speaking Bengali in Dhaka

Letter September 15, 2011
I have met many close, well-educated, Bangladeshi friends and no one has ever spoken to me about the events of 1971.

KALGOORLIE, AUSTRALIA: This is with reference to Jyoti Malhotra’s article of September 15 titled “Speaking Bengali in Dhaka”.

I have met many well-educated Bangladeshis who are doing very well in various professional fields. Some are among my closest friends. No one has ever spoken to me about the events of 1971. And yes one of them speaks Urdu quite well and is a fan of Mirza Ghalib’s poetry.
