Peace between India and Pakistan (II)

Letter September 15, 2011
India should realise that it is the largest democracy in the world, with all of that comes a sense of responsibility.

LAHORE: Kuldip Nayar’s article should be an eye-opener for Indians and for Pakistan’s mostly India-loving liberals, who feel that India can do no wrong and that their own country is behind everything wrong that happens on the other side of the border. India should understand and realise that it is the largest democracy in the world, and a power in the region, and with all of that comes a sense of responsibility. It needs to be more accommodating towards its neighbours and should not bully them as it does in the case of Pakistan and Bangladesh, and even to an extent Sri Lanka.

As for Dr Manmohan Singh, the last time I checked, he was the prime minister of India, which means that he represents the will of the Indian electorate. One can only wonder who people like MK Narayanan represent. Also, it is worth reminding that just like in Pakistan, India also has a powerful civil-military establishment which does not want lasting peace with Pakistan and will do whatever it takes to further this goal.
