Eid holidays

Letter August 30, 2011
In the US, the Christmas holiday is only for one day and that too after 2 pm or so.

CHANTILLY, VA, US: This is with reference to Amina Jilani’s article of August 27, titled “Fun is not endemic”. I was absolutely dumb founded by the federal government’s announcement of four days of holidays for Eid. In the US (I don’t know about Europe) the Christmas holiday is only for one day and that too after 2 pm or so. Everything is open and everyone is working. In fact, the non-Christmas lot, meaning Pakistanis, South Koreans and Nepalese manning the 7-11 stores, make a killing!

I am not sure about the newspapers (my memory is slipping) but I think there are newspapers right through since Christmas sales are some 30-40 per cent of annual profits.
