One wonders what is being taught at the NDU since arguments in the article seem based more on emotion than reason.
LONDON: This is with reference to Zahir Kazmi’s article of August 24 titled “Pakistan, US and the FMCT”.
The writer’s argument that American acrimony towards Pakistan is based on the fact that we have yet to sign the FMCT (Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty) seems a bit hard to believe.
What about a certain most-wanted terrorist living in Abbottabad? Didn’t his presence, in a city known for its military presence, sour relations between the two countries?
Also, as far as the FMCT goes, the stance against Pakistan is not based only on the US position but rather as many as 46 countries are against Islamabad on it. And, if I may ask, what exactly is Pakistan’s ‘Islamic DNA’? Whose Islam are we talking about? Pre-Zia or post-Zia? What ‘goodwill’ aid is being offered to seminaries? Such arguments make one wonder that what is being taught to students at the National Defence University since the arguments in the article seem to be based more on emotion than reason.
