CHICAGO: This is with reference to your editorial of August 18 titled “Pakistan’s relationship with America”. There is a simple and straightforward solution to how the relationship can be improved, what is missing is leadership.
Consider the following: Pakistan publicly requests and gets US affirmation of its nuclear status and participation/partnership in a strategic umbrella that is available to Israel and Saudi Arabia as well. In turn, Pakistan cuts off all ties with the Haqqani network and the Lashkar-e-Taiba. It then focuses on developing the tribal areas so as to reduce future recruitment by militant groups. Of course, this is easier said than done.
