Provinces and the issue of ethnicity

Letter August 14, 2011
A serious problem of our nation is the ethnic factor that finds its roots in supposed feelings of ‘racial superiority’

LOMA LINDA, CA, US: This is with reference to Ejaz Haider’s article of August 13 titled “More subas? — I”. One serious problem of our nation is the ethnic factor that finds its roots in supposed feelings of ‘racial superiority’. The Sufis and other like-minded people did preach love, respect and other noble values, but they also never took a stand against ethnic or racial tensions. Over time, these differences have increased, to the point now that people are killing each other on the basis of ethnicity. One possible ray of hope can come from liberal education and investment in a truly secular syllabus. We should also take a look at the current quota system, which has aggravated the problem, and reform it to accommodate people regardless of their ethnic background and base it instead on poverty and deprivation.
