NIDDERAU, GERMANY: This is with reference to your editorial of August 5 titled “Mubarak stands trial — finally”. It is time dictators also see the bars from the inside. But I hope it will not be a trial just to please Mubarak-haters.
As Mubarak is thrown to the dogs by Egypt’s new dictator Field Marshall Mohamed Tantawi, and while the crowds on Tahrir Square are savaged by his troops, the fat cat generals and rich Copts who rule Egypt wait apprehensively to see if the mobs unleashed by the revolution can be bottled up once again like the proverbial genie, so that it can be business as usual again.
It will help Pakistan if instead of civilian leaders, a military dictator is also tried. That, if anything, will perhaps be the best deterrent to military adventurists in the future.
