LONDON: This is with reference to Raza Rumi’s article of August 9 titled “Lahore’s growing Talibanisation”, referring to the raid of a Lahore art gallery.
The problem sadly remains that the SHO’s constituency is not the English op-ed reading public. His stature in the community, among his peers in particular, will probably improve after such actions. From the outside, places like art galleries are abodes of the rich so there will always be an element of rumour creeping in as far as the wider community is concerned. The wider community usually does not interact much with such organisations, and some among them will quite easily accuse them of being involved in ‘immoral activities’. Unfortunately, such incidents suggest that as our society gets more conservative, such actions will become even more frequent.
