Why are we criticising Hina Rabbani Khar simply because she is a woman and is well-dressed?
KARACHI: This is with reference to Amina Jilani’s article of August 6 titled “The fashion statement”. Why are we criticising Hina Rabbani Khar simply because she is a woman and is well-dressed? What about our male politicians? Does anyone bother to ask how much is the cost of the suits worn by the prime minister or the president? Many male members of the federal cabinet dress expensively but no one comments on that. It is sad that while women are making their presence felt in every field of life and doing good work of it, for the media they are still just sex objects. Instead of commenting on the bags they carry or sunglasses they wear, how about commenting on their work and performance?
As a teacher of media studies, I condemn this attitude and wish all Pakistanis would do the same.
