KARACHI:
With the increasing use of digital platforms, cases of online fraud are becoming a serious concern for people from different background. People are relying on digital platforms for shopping, banking, education and employment.
Recent media reports highlighted a raid in Karachi where the NCCIA arrested 47 people from a “scam centre” reportedly involved in obtaining banking information through deceptive calls. Such incidents show how online platforms and communication technology can be misused for fraudulent activities.
Apart from such cases, people are also targeted through fake job advertisements, visa offers, online shopping pages and investment schemes. Young people searching for employment are particularly vulnerable to these scams.
The authorities should take strict action against cybercriminals and improve online complaint systems. Public awareness campaigns should also educate citizens about protecting their personal and financial information. Online platforms should be safe and trustworthy for everyone.
