Life at 20

Life at 20

KARACHI:

Turning 20 does not mean that a person has all the answers about life. However, many young people face pressure from their families and society to decide their careers, achieve success and meet expectations at an early age. Sometimes, when they fail to meet these expectations, they are compared with others and their abilities are underestimated.
Parents should try to understand their children’s interests instead of forcing them to fulfil dreams that they could not achieve themselves. Every child has different abilities and should be encouraged to choose a suitable direction. Colleges and universities should also arrange career counselling sessions to help students understand their strengths and explore different career options.
Another concern is that some young people keep changing their goals after seeing other people’s achievements on social media. They want quick results but may not give themselves enough time to learn and improve. Building a career requires patience, consistency and effort. If one field does not work out despite sincere efforts, exploring another field should not be considered failure.
Society should understand that young people are still learning and taking their first steps into practical life. Instead of comparing them, we should appreciate their efforts and encourage them to keep moving forward. At 20, young people need guidance and opportunities, not the pressure to have their entire future figured out.
