AI-morphed videos

KARACHI:

AI is now all over the place. Students, employees and professionals all rely on it for their daily work, whether for assignments, presentations or pitching new ideas. However, this technology comes with significant downsides. The pros and cons of AI are felt globally, affecting people far beyond any single country or city.
A particularly dangerous trend is the misuse of AI to create deepfakes and morphed videos. These target public figures, social media influencers and ordinary individuals alike. Because AI-generated content looks incredibly realistic, it is difficult to separate fact from fiction. This heavily damages the victims’ lives and mental health, often inciting hatred and severe cyberbullying. Tragically, the resulting trauma has led many into deep depression and even driven some to suicide.
To combat this, authorities must prioritise internet safety by enacting strict laws and taking decisive action against cybercrimes. Implementing severe consequences will make perpetrators think twice before acting, ensuring that social media becomes a safer environment for everyone.
