Winter gas woes

Winter gas woes

KARACHI:

Every year, as winter approaches, many households experience low gas pressure and prolonged load-shedding. This situation creates difficulties for families, students and working individuals who depend on gas for cooking and heating. The problem becomes even more severe for low-income families, who often struggle to afford alternative fuels such as LPG cylinders.
The unavailability of gas during morning hours makes it difficult for parents to prepare breakfast and for students to reach their educational institutions on time. Moreover, the rising cost of alternative energy sources adds to the financial burden of households already affected by inflation. Such circumstances not only disturb daily routines but also raise questions about effective energy management and long-term planning.
The relevant authorities must take immediate and practical steps to address this growing problem. Better distribution of gas, strict action against illegal connections and the prevention of unnecessary wastage can help improve the situation. The authorities should ensure a fair and reliable supply of gas to domestic consumers, especially during peak winter hours.
Public awareness is also essential. Citizens should be encouraged to use gas responsibly and avoid excessive consumption. However, individual efforts alone cannot resolve this crisis without effective policies and proper implementation by the authorities.
Winter should not become a season of hardship for ordinary citizens. Access to basic necessities, including an affordable and reliable energy supply, is essential for a decent standard of living.
