KARACHI:
Apropos of the letter published in these columns on October 23 about K-Electric, it is important to distinguish among scheduled load-shedding, localised technical faults and outages caused by damage to electricity infrastructure.
KE reiterates that free electricity in any area is not possible. Load-shedding across KE’s service territory is determined by the amount of non-payment and electricity theft in the area, and implemented according to the published schedule available on KE’s website.
It is also pertinent to mention that KE’s network integrity has been significantly disrupted due to the ongoing development work in the city with unauthorised excavation and pickaxing, damaging KE’s underground cables network. It remains one of the major reasons for unplanned outages in Karachi.
Through the KE Live App, the utility maintains transparency by keeping customers updated with estimated restoration times. The utility encourages customers to report service disruption through its official complaint channels so that issues can be assessed and addressed in a timely manner.
