KARACHI:
In an era of rapid digitalisation where digital access is increasingly recognised as a fundamental right, chronic internet disruptions have become a punishing daily reality in Balochistan.
For the past two weeks, internet services have been entirely suspended across Zhob district, crippling the daily lives of citizens. Students, in particular, are bearing the brunt of this institutional apathy. Many rely heavily on online learning platforms to prepare for competitive examinations, the MDCAT, and various academic tests. This leaves them completely stranded. Beyond the student body, all segments of local society face severe logistical hurdles because digital connectivity is no longer a luxury — it is an absolute necessity.
Even prior to this disruption, the district’s network infrastructure was notoriously unreliable. The authorities’ prolonged indifference to this crisis is deeply concerning, and the government must take immediate, decisive measures to restore stable internet services to the region.
