Differently-abled people

KARACHI:

Individuals with disabilities continue to encounter significant physical barriers in their daily lives. Most public buildings, footpaths, recreational parks and public transportation systems lack fundamental accessibility features such as wheelchair ramps, elevators, tactile paving and dedicated accessible facilities. This severe absence of basic infrastructure severely limits their mobility, preventing them from navigating public spaces independently and engaging fully in social, educational and professional activities.
There is a dire need for urban planners, government departments and local authorities to prioritise accessibility by retrofitting existing infrastructure and enforcing strict accessibility mandates for all new public projects. Enhancing public transport, installing wheelchair ramps and designing accessible public areas are essential steps toward equality.
It is our moral and legal responsibility to foster an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of physical ability, enjoys dignity, equal rights and unhindered opportunity.
