KARACHI:
Art is a vital part of our lives – something that defines our culture, history and traditions. In Turbat, many women are deeply passionate about sketching, painting and other forms of art. However, they lack a proper space to showcase their talent.
Currently, Turbat has only one art centre, and that too lacks adequate facilities. While the Kech Cultural Centre and Museum exists, it does not serve as a dedicated art gallery for women. Furthermore, conservative cultural norms prevent some families from allowing young women to visit mixed-gender spaces. Because men and women mingle freely in these centres, many talented young girls are held back from displaying their skills and eventually lose interest in art altogether.
As a student who is passionate about art and hopes to pursue it as a career, I believe there must be a dedicated art gallery for girls in Turbat. A proper, separate gallery would give young women the confidence to improve their skills and showcase their creativity safely.
Art galleries are not just for artists; they are for everyone. They help keep our culture alive. Kech has a rich history, and these galleries could beautifully display the traditions and heritage of Balochistan to visitors. The government should take steps to build a separate art gallery for women in Turbat, providing young female artists the opportunity they deserve to shine.
