Real education is not just about reading and memorising; it is about applying what we learn to our daily lives. It is commendable that many universities are trying to educate students about environmental issues through specialised sessions and courses. However, a critical question remains: how can citizens avoid polluting the environment when proper waste-disposal facilities are not available?
For example, when you have a wrapper to throw away outdoors, you naturally look for a dustbin, but you rarely find one nearby. You can keep walking and searching, yet still come up empty-handed. In the end, you may have no choice but to carry the trash all the way home just to dispose of it properly. This lack of infrastructure is incredibly frustrating.
If we are educating people about pollution and environmental responsibility, the government must also ensure that public dustbins are readily available across Pakistan. Having easily accessible bins would make it effortless for people to throw away trash correctly instead of littering on roads, streets or public spaces. This step alone would keep public areas clean and significantly reduce pollution. Education creates awareness, but proper facilities enable people to put that awareness into practice.
