The residents of district Awaran of Balochistan have been suffering from immense problems due to persistent power shortage. Students are among those most affected as they require electricity for computer-based learning, internet access and examination preparation. Healthcare facilities also require dependable electricity. Refrigeration of medicines and vaccines, diagnostic equipment, lighting, emergency services and communication systems all depend on reliable power. Interruptions can therefore affect both routine services and emergency care.
The solution should not be limited to increasing conventional grid supply. The authorities should examine the feasibility of solar power and other renewable-energy solutions for remote communities, schools, basic health units and public facilities. Where grid connections are technically feasible, distribution infrastructure should also be upgraded.
A detailed electricity survey of Awaran should identify villages and public institutions facing the greatest shortages, the duration and frequency of outages and the infrastructure required to improve supply.
I request the provincial and federal authorities to give priority to electricity infrastructure in Awaran district and ensure reliable power supply.
