Once celebrated as the City of Lights, Karachi is now engulfed in darkness. This regression is rooted in numerous factors, but a few of them are the most critical.
The first and foremost is price hike, which is escalating by the day. Compared with other parts of the country, Karachi is much more expensive to live in. Social evils like street crime, robbery, dacoity and kidnapping — once far less prevalent — now rise in tandem with inflation, creating a deeply unstable and threatening environment.
Another grave concern, which dominates the media headlines, is the rising rape and murder cases. Children, in particular, are being abused with impunity. Tragically, these cases are soon forgotten; justice is rarely served, and culprits go unpunished. It is profoundly unjust when society violates its own moral codes and further victimises the vulnerable.
Furthermore, relentless load-shedding continues to torment citizens. People are forced to endure prolonged power outages with no viable alternatives, leaving many to wonder how infrastructural faults can occur so frequently yet take entire days to repair.
While these represent only a fraction of Karachi’s challenges, they are a constant grievance for its residents. My appeal to the government is simple: we, the Karachiites, are already overburdened by financial and personal hardships — please do not aggravate our suffering.
