KARACHI:
Sukkur used to feel like a place where you could walk home late and didn’t have to worry. That’s just not true anymore. A few weeks ago, two boys from a well-known university got robbed on the 100 Feet Road in broad daylight. Two men came on a bike, snatched their bags along with laptops and phones, and just rode off before anyone could even react.
Such crimes are on the rise. Ask anyone in the city, and they’ve either been robbed themselves or know someone who has been. Students walking to university, people coming home from work, and women going to the market —nobody feels safe on that road once it gets dark.
The police really need to start patrolling 100 Foot Road in particular. They must get the CCTV cameras working — since half of them don’t — and actively go after the criminals involved in these offences instead of just letting case after case pile up
