The lack of shade trees along the roads in our area has become a serious problem, especially during hot summer months. Many roads have very few trees, leaving pedestrians, cyclists and people waiting for transport exposed to strong sunlight.
Shade trees are very important for a healthy and comfortable environment. They provide shade and reduce the heat around roads, while improving air quality, beautifying the environment and reducing dust.
Unfortunately, many roads in our city have wide empty spaces where trees could easily be planted. During hot weather, students, elderly people, workers and pedestrians have to walk long distances under direct sunlight.
Planting trees along roads would provide natural shade and make walking more comfortable. I kindly request the concerned authorities to start a tree-planting programme along major roads, footpaths, schools, parks and public areas. Proper care should also be taken to water and protect the newly planted trees.
