KARACHI:
Schools are places where students spend a large portion of their lives learning and developing skills. However, many schools do not have a suitable environment for education. Some schools lack clean drinking water, proper toilets, electricity, furniture, trees and waste-management facilities. Dirty classrooms and surroundings can also affect students’ health and concentration.
When talking about schools in Balochistan in particular, many of them lack a suitable environment for moral upbringing as well. Many students use tobacco in schools and routinely eat unhealthy food, which affects their health and wellbeing. Many students also exhibit disorderly behaviour and struggle to read Urdu and English because they are not interested in studying. This is not the fault of those students but rather of the system that discourages learning and achieving success.
Because of these problems, many parents do not even allow their children to go to school. The government and school administrations should take practical steps to improve school facilities. Teachers, students and parents should work together to maintain cleanliness and discipline. I hope the authorities will pay attention and take action to provide a safe place and a healthy environment for all students.
