Cricket in Balochistan

Letter September 04, 2026
Cricket in Balochistan

KARACHI:

Cricket is not as encouraged by the government in Balochistan as it should be. Balochistan, which is the largest province of Pakistan, often receives much less attention and far fewer opportunities in cricket. However, Balochistan did become a regional team after the new domestic structure.
Despite producing immense local talent in regions like Turbat and Quetta, the province remains one of the most overlooked regions in the country’s sporting ecosystem. In 2024, there were many clubs in Balochistan that played quality cricket. More than 99 players have represented the Pakistan Cricket Team from 2006 to 2026, but no Baloch player has ever been part of the team.
The government must take restorative action on this issue because Balochistan has the potential to make strong contributions to Pakistani cricket. It is only due to a lack of proper facilities and training that it lags behind, and the sport remains undervalued in the region.
