The rising cost of living in Pakistan

KARACHI:

The rising cost of living has become one of the biggest challenges facing ordinary families in Pakistan. From groceries and electricity bills to education, healthcare and transportation, everyday expenses are becoming increasingly difficult to manage.
For many households, salaries and incomes have not increased at the same pace as expenses. Families are therefore being forced to make difficult choices. Some are cutting back on food and entertainment, while others are reducing spending on education, healthcare and other necessities. For low-income families, even a small increase in the price of essential goods can have a serious impact.
Young people are also feeling the pressure. Many graduates struggle to find jobs, while those who are employed often find it difficult to save money or become financially independent. Rising expenses can also encourage skilled workers and young professionals to consider opportunities abroad.
The problem is not limited to individual families. High living costs can affect the wider economy by reducing people’s purchasing power and increasing financial uncertainty. Addressing this challenge requires long-term efforts to improve employment opportunities, control unnecessary price increases and strengthen economic stability. Support for low-income households and greater investment in productive sectors can also help reduce the pressure on ordinary citizens.
Pakistan’s economic challenges are complex, but the impact is simple: families want to live with dignity and plan for the future without constantly worrying about their next bill. The rising cost of living is therefore more than an economic statistic. It is a daily reality for millions of Pakistanis.
